Downstairs Renovation and Kitchen Expansion in Hoddesdon

Project Overview

Kelly purchased her Hoddesdon home with a clear vision: to transform a dated downstairs layout into a modern, open-plan space. The project included removing internal walls, installing structural steels, laying new flooring, fitting a bespoke kitchen, and adding bi-fold doors that open onto the garden.

Client Goals

The brief was simple but ambitious - create a bright, spacious family hub where cooking, dining, and relaxing could all happen together. Connecting the living space to the garden with large glass doors was also high on the wishlist.

How We Did It

From the first site visit, we worked closely with Kelly to design a layout that maximised space and light. After consultation with a structural engineer, steel beams were installed to safely open up the downstairs.

We then fitted new flooring throughout and installed bi-fold doors for seamless indoor-outdoor living. The kitchen design included a central island - both a practical workspace and a natural gathering point for family life.

Overcoming Challenges

Midway through, Covid restrictions arrived. With no working kitchen in the property, it was essential to complete the project without delay. Our team followed all safety guidelines, working in full PPE to keep everyone safe while ensuring the build stayed on track.

The Finished Result

The end result is a light-filled, open-plan living area that’s as practical as it is stylish. There’s ample space around the island and dining table, with a cosy snug area for relaxing. The bi-fold doors complete the transformation, bringing in natural light and opening up the home to the garden.

Kelly was delighted with how the project turned out - a complete change in how her family uses the space.
